The Abyss · Orth · the southern sea

Everyone comes back
lighter than they went in.

A pit seven layers deep, full of relics worth more than the town above it, and a curse that charges you only on the way out. This is a guide to all seven — what is worth seeing, what will kill you, and precisely what the ascent costs.

Scroll. That is the only direction here.

The Curse of the Abyss

Descending is free. The Abyss charges on the way up, and the charge scales with how deep you were when you turned around. This is the single fact the whole trip is organised around.

At the top it is a wave of dizziness. By the fourth layer it is bleeding from everywhere at once. Past the sixth it takes your humanity or your life, and it does not let you pick. Nobody has negotiated it down.

  • Whistles — Red, blue, moon, black, white. The colour is a licence, not a rank, and nobody checks it down there.
  • Relics — First to fourth grade. Everything above third grade has killed its previous owner.
  • Ascent — Plan it before you leave. Most people who die in the Abyss die going up.

Book your descent

There is no booking. There is a rope, a whistle you were not issued, and a hole in the ground that has been there longer than the town. Go in the morning.
